Coláiste Samhraidh Glanmire

Located : 7 Kilometres from Cork City

Cúrsaí Samhraidh Gaeilge do bhuachaillí agus do chailíní idir 10 agus 15 bliana d’aois.

A residential summer college of Irish for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 15.

Three courses will be held:

2–9 lúil (July) – €480

9–6 lúil (July) – €480

16–23 lúil (July) – €480

Courses will cater for the 10 – 15 age group and are suitable for students in the senior classes in Primary School and junior classes in Post-Primary School. Emphasis will be placed on learning through enjoyment and active participation.

 

 

Education

The classes are arranged so as to benefit each student, irrespective of age or standard and are based on everyday language situations with emphasis on oral and aural work.

Experienced and highly qualified language teachers are employed. Specialised teachers are engaged for the teaching of Art and Craft & Poster painting. Cinnirí will supervise the students and take charge of games etc. Special attention is given to fluency in oral Irish.

Classes are held each morning. Games, leagues, competitions, swimming, Treasure Hunt, art and craft etc. are organised in the afternoons.

Clár Teagaisc & Foireann

Cuirfear cúrsa suimiúil d’ardchaighdeán ar fáil ina mbeidh idir ranganna foirmiúla Gaeilge ar maidin, Amhránaíocht, Ceol, Ealaín, Drámaíocht, Snámh agus Cluichí eagraithe san iarnóin agus Céilí istoíche. Beidh múinteoirí teangan ard-cháilithe i bhfeighil teagaisc agus féitheoireachta . Beidh cinnirí i bhfeighil na ndaltaí, i gceannas ar cluichí, céilithe agus rl.

Facilities

Girls are accommodated in Glanmire House. Boys are accommodated in the dormitory section of Scoil na nÓg. Classes are held in modern well-equipped classrooms in Coláiste an Phiarsaigh.

Recreation

Facilities include heated indoor Swimming Pool, large Gym Hall, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball Courts, Playing pitch for games, Unihoc, Table-tennis and Badminton facilities. Students should bring their own badminton rackets and shuttlecocks, tennis rackets and balls. Various trips are organised for the students during the course at an extra cost.

The Céilí each evening is the social high point of the course. Other popular activities include Fancy Dress, Talent Competitions, Singing etc.

Requirements

Individual clothing requirements are left to the discretion of parents. However the following items are essential:-

Bedlinen:

1 Duvet (single)
2 Duvet covers
2 fitted sheets
Pillow and 2 Pillow covers
(Sleeping Bags are not acceptable)
Clothing:- We strongly recommend – Tracksuits, shorts and t-shirts, sports shoes, football outfit, swimming togs, swimming cap, large and small towels, soap etc. and light rainwear.

Laundry facilities are not provided. All items should be clearly marked with students name.

No responsibility can be accepted for personal belongings lost or left behind. To ensure the safe-keeping of personal belongings each student requires two small padlocks (with two keys for each). Students may lodge pocket money in college bank.

Visiting

Saturdays From 4.30 p.m – 7.30 p.m

Sundays – From 11.30 a.m – 8.30 p.m.

General Rules

  • Irish is the language of the College and students must speak Irish at all times to the best of their ability.
  • Students and visitors must obey College authorities.
  • Should you wish your son/daughter to leave the College for any reason, we would appreciate written permission of the parent/guardian. It will be necessary to sign the College Book on departure and return of student.
  • Smoking is not permitted. Possession of alcoholic drinks, drugs or solvents will result in instant expulsion.
  • We advise parents to telephone as infrequently as possible, especially during the first few days of the course. The use of mobile phones is restricted. Camera phones are forbidden.
  • Chewing gum is forbidden for reasons of hygiene, aerosols are also forbidden.
  • Hair Dryers and Straighteners, Ipods/Mp3’s and all electrical appliances are forbidden.
  • Management reserves the right to dismiss a student whose conduct is unsatisfactory or who refuses to comply fully with the college rules and language policy.

Full details of travel arrangements will be sent to each student before the commencement of the course.

A deposit of €150 is required with each application form

Balance of fee must be paid before the commencement of the course.

A Premium for Personal Accident Insurance is included in the fee.

Health

A qualified nurse is in attendance and the school doctor is on call.

Parents will be liable for any expense arising from a students illness.
